Better one size bigger

Schaden Zentrum Mainfranken is one of the largest and most innovative body and paint stores in the region.

Schaden Zentrum Mainfranken, or SZM for short – this is what car dealerships that have joined forces usually call their repair centers. Or car manufacturers call their paint and bodywork centers. “We chose this name because we want to present ourselves neutrally,” explains Nunzio Campanozzi, one of the two SZM Managing Directors. “And because the name signals that we want to be the first address in the area.” The SZM has what it takes. On an area of 8,500 square meters, an operation has been created in Würzburg that is likely to be one of the largest and most modern in the region and beyond. Nunzio Campanozzi remains silent about the investment sum, but not quite: “We ended up in the eight-figure range.” You don’t have to look far to find the reasons for this. “As far as the size of the business is concerned, we are focusing on strong growth and have adopted the principle of ‘better one size bigger’,” explains Campanozzi. “On the other hand, we have opted for the higher quality option in practically every construction and plant engineering decision. This starts with the reception area and extends to the paint shop and the furnishing of the staff lounges.”

Industrial processes The highlight and heart of the workshop is the painting area. Here, the two managing directors aimed for standardized processes based on those used in industry. In the middle of the painting line planned and supplied by SEHON are two ventilated masking workstations. From there, a Professional Futura combination booth is located to the left and right, each with a separate connected dryer. The vehicles are transported via a 26-metre-long floor rail system. “From our point of view, the solution with the two dryers enables faster and more reliable work, as no heating and cooling times for the spray booths have to be observed,” explains Nunzio Campanozzi.

“The dryers can easily maintain exactly the right temperature for exactly the right time.” The dryer solution also fits in well with the SZM’s energy concept. A combined heat and power plant, also planned by SEHON and integrated into the system, supplies all the heat and electricity required to operate the SZM.
